Head In The Hole, 2021
At the center of the gallery stood a sealed wooden booth. The booth functioned as a stage for performances that took place throughout the exhibition period, and were filmed, photographed, and screened to the outside world using two cameras and two monitors. Rather than continuous, the intermittent documentation paused the viewers’ gaze on arbitrary moments.
Head In The Hole offered a new relationship between the viewer's gaze as testimony, and the destructive and suggestive potential of voyeurism and self-display.
As part of the exhibition, the video work "Defake" (13 mins.) was projected in the space as a window to a different world. Displaying a dystopian reality through the eyes of surveilled individuals, this video imitates and manipulates the documentary rhetoric. "Defake" makes use of AI and conventions of transhuman narratives to disturb familiar forms of the moving image.
